Five Steps to Getting What You Want
Updated: Feb 16

Greetings Divine child —
Why do we set intentions? Simple: to get what we want. But knowing what we really want isn't always that simple. That's why the practice of setting your intentions is so important: it doesn't just help you get what you want; it helps you know what you want.
So, here's how to declare what you want and attract it into your life experience by using the practice of setting intentions.
1. Breathe
Take a deep breath. Now release it. Deep breathing helps you settle into your body, which in turn helps you connect with your true-self (your higher self). Being more in tune with your true-self will help you quiet the ego-mind chatter so that you can gain clarity on what you truly want.
2. Picture what you want
Can you picture what you want? Many people are only focused on what they don’t want — Are you one of those people? If so, now is the time to stop thinking of what you don’t want and only think about what you do want. Remember, every thought you think radiates out a specific energy signature that attracts more like energy to it. When you set an intention, you must be intentional about what energy signatures you're broadcasting.

3. Quiet the ego
Don’t let the ego-mind stop or distract you from thinking about what you want. If the ego has control, which it often does, it can make you think a variety of things that will interfere with this process: you're not worth what you want; you don't have time to set intentions; you shouldn’t waste your time thinking about what you want because you'll probably never get it. But, if you don’t think of what you want, you for sure will never get it! (Check out “The Untethered Soul” by Michael A. Singer, on the HLS Reading List to learn more.) Remember, the ego lives in fear energy. The ego is scared of the unknown. And once you start setting intentions and asking for what you truly want, you'll begin to break away from the cycle of the known that no longer serves you. Naturally, ego will try to stop you. But the more you do it, the easier it will become.
4. Listen to your body
Notice how your body feels when you think about what you want. (This part of the process may take some practice.) Where is the feeling? Does it feel good or not? If there is pain, tightness, or blockages, you know something needs to be addressed. If you can master this awareness — meaning how your thoughts make your body feel — you will be well on your way to setting intentions that are more likely to manifest.
5. Relax and allow
Finally, relax and just allow yourself to enjoy getting what you want. Imagine what it would feel like to see your intentions come to life. The longer you exist in that feeling, the quicker and easier your desires will come to you.
As you practice the skill of setting intentions, take note of what works for you and what doesn’t. Notice how your thoughts and actions create how you feel. Has something that needs to be addressed come to light throughout this practice?
You can set your intentions whenever you want — the moment you wake up, on your way to an event, before a conversation with someone, etc. And you can tailor your intentions to any scenario. Setting specific intentions can help you with maintaining personal boundaries, improving confidence, quieting the unwanted mind chatter, gaining clarity, and creating success. The possibilities are endless.
To begin, I recommend setting your intentions when you first wake up. Your ego-mind will still be wandering around in the alpha to low-beta brainwave range, so this is a prime opportunity to get around its fear-based defenses while it is still half-asleep. These moments offer you an opportunity to break through the ego-mind’s limits and connect with your soul power’s limitlessness (see previous post for more on The purpose of Body, Mind & Soul).
Make setting intentions a daily practice and take back control of your life. Allow what you truly desire to become your reality. Your future is up to you.
Eternally yours,
— D.p.
Remember who you are — you are Divine Love.
